What is it?

International classifications are systematic lists of objects or groups of objects designed for grouping, analysing and comparing data at the international level. These lists include codes, titles and descriptions of characteristics structured according to a specific framework. They serve as a universal “language” that makes statistics from different countries understandable and comparable.

This system of classifications covers economic, social and other types of data (for example, environmental data). International standards used in Lithuania, such as ISIC (the International Standard Industrial Classification) economic activities), NACE (the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community) the European Community version) and ISCO (the International Standard Classification of Occupations) occupations/jobs), ensure that our country’s data are compatible with European Union and United Nations statistics.

All official classifications can be found on the Lithuanian Data Portal. Users can search by code, word or phrase and download the required lists for their needs.
