What is it?

A classification is a structured list used to categorize data. It assigns unique codes and titles to various activities, products, occupations, or territories. It serves as a common language that enables information to be understood, collected, and analyzed consistently both in Lithuania and in international comparisons.

The national classifications used in Lithuania are most often adapted versions of international standards (e.g. EU classifications). The most common example is the Classification of Economic Activities (EVRK), which is required when registering an enterprise or starting a self-employed activity. Classification systems help ensure the accuracy of statistical data and support the smooth operation of public sector information systems.

How to use it?

All official classifications can be found in the “Classifications” section of the Lithuania Data Portal. This section provides not only the classification codes themselves, but also detailed explanations of what is included in each class, as well as mappings between different versions of classifications.
