The organization carries out firefighting and rescue operations, ensures fire safety supervision and coordination of information. It concludes fire safety agreements with owners of fire-hazardous facilities and monitors the readiness of other fire-rescue forces to extinguish fires and perform other rescue tasks. The organization ensures timely responses to requests for assistance and organizes and coordinates the operation of the general emergency telephone number 112 in the Republic of Lithuania. It organizes, directs and conducts firefighting and other rescue operations for people and property, promotes, organizes and coordinates the activities of volunteer firefighters and performs the functions of an organizer of voluntary activities. The organization develops international cooperation with the relevant institutions of other states and with international organizations.
