The organization formulates state policy, organizes, coordinates and controls its implementation and, in cases provided by law, implements it in the fields of governance entrusted to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. The aims of the organization's activities are to formulate state policy and to organize, coordinate and control its implementation in the following areas of activity: foreign affairs and security policy (international relations, economic security); foreign trade; protection of the rights and interests of the Republic of Lithuania and of its legal and natural persons abroad; coordination of membership in the European Union; representation of the Republic of Lithuania abroad, diplomatic and consular relations, diplomatic service, the state and diplomatic protocol of the Republic of Lithuania, international treaty relations; the Republic of Lithuania's development cooperation policy; and Lithuanian diaspora policy.
