The organization analyzes bioethical issues, provides consultation and education on bioethics, issues permits to conduct biomedical research and carries out the ethical oversight of such research, grants approvals for clinical trials of medicinal products and conducts the ethical oversight of those trials, ensures protection of patients' rights and dignity in the provision of health care services, provides methodological support to medical ethics committees and other institutions, organizes seminars and conferences for specialists and the general public, promotes the publication and dissemination of bioethical literature, submits proposals regarding normative documents or their drafts related to bioethical matters, and represents Lithuania in international organizations within its competence.
