The organization participates in formulating state policy in the field of subsoil; ensures the rational use, exploration and protection of subsoil resources in the Republic of Lithuania, in its territorial sea, on the continental shelf and in the economic zone; collects, stores and manages the national geological information system; preserves the quality of the geological environment, monitors and forecasts its changes.
