The organization provides recommendations to the Seimas and the Government when considering national science matters and strengthening Lithuania's international scientific relations. The organization is responsible for science funding: it announces competitions for financing scientific activities, administers and evaluates received competition applications, funds scientific research, and provides support for doctoral students' professional trips, academic associations, student research, and postdoctoral placements. The organization also conducts evaluations of scientific institutions and participates in international cooperation programs.
