The organization submits proposals to the Seimas, the President and the Government on language policy and on issues related to the implementation of the State Language Law, determines the directions for the regulation of the Lithuanian language, addresses matters of Lithuanian language standardization and codification, evaluates and approves the principal normative language works (dictionaries, reference works, manuals, textbooks), ensures the integration of the Lithuanian language into information technologies, approves the replacement of foreignisms with Lithuanian equivalents, is responsible for the preservation of dialects and ethnic place names, approves the list of Lithuanian traditional place names of Lithuanian, Latvian, Prussian and other Baltic ethnic lands and establishes the procedure for the use of traditional place names in the Republic of Lithuania, also monitors the state of the language in various fields, considers current issues of language usage and standardization raised by the public and decides on them, and establishes general qualification requirements for language regulators.
